FAIRFIELD, Wash. — Rattlers Run Vintage Motocross and Trials race featuring vintage motorcycles reaches a milestone this year with the Sept. 12-13 running of the 20th annual event.
The event features two similar but different disciplines including motocross and trials riding. In motocross speed is important on a track featuring hills, sharp turns and jumps.
In trials riding, speed is replaced by skill where riders test their balance, control and precision over extreme natural obstacle.
This event started in 2006 at the Anderberg family farm in Fairfield. The Anderberg’s, Al and Brian, use a grass hillside on the farm to race vintage motocross and trials bikes on a piece of ground named after their family dog named “Rattler” — thus the name Rattlers Run.
American Historic Racing Motorcycle Association (AHRMA) will sanction this event that might resemble a rolling racing museum.
According to a news release, if you rode dirt bikes in the 1960s, 1970s or 1980s come on out and check it out. More than likely, there will be a model of your favorite old bike being raced and the racers are always happy to talk about their motorcycles. This event is a great family-oriented event.
The events start Saturday, Sept. 12 with vintage trials starting at 9 a.m. For those who are new to trails there is a trials school being held on Friday, Sept. 11 taught by Mike Allen at 4 p.m.
Starting at 1 p.m. Saturday, Post Vintage and Next Gen bikes, built 1975 and newer race. Sunday Sept. 13 the racing starts at 9 a.m. for 1974 or older vintage bikes.
