A Record Breaking Unlimited Hydroplane Driver

DAYTONA, FLORIDA — The boat’s here and now yet another person associated with the incredible success of the Miss Budweiser unlimited hydroplane has a home in the Motorsports Hall of Fame of America.

Dave Villwock, the most successful driver in history and who retired following the 2025 season is the latest Miss Bud related inductee and was added to the hall in ceremonies last week. Related Miss Bud inductees include owner Bernie Little (Class of 1994), Chip Hanauer (Class of 1995), and Tom D’Eath (Class of 2000).

The 72-year-old Villwock had a stellar history driving a variety of boats won a record 11th Gold Cup this past July in Tri Cities. He holds the record for most career wins (67) in Unlimited Hydroplane history.

His career also includes 10 National High Point Championships. Villwock drove legendary boats including Miss Budweiser, Circus Circus, and PICO American Dream.

Joining Villwock in the Class of 2026 are:

  • Dale Earnhardt Jr.: Two-time Daytona 500 Champion and winner of 15 straight NASCAR Most Popular Driver Awards.

  • Steve Gibbs: Former NHRA Competition Director and Vice President, known for implementing safety measures and innovations in the sport.

  • Pete Lyons: Acclaimed motorsports reporter and photographer, covering various racing disciplines.

  • John Morton: Renowned road racing driver.

  • Kenny Roberts Jr.: 2000 MotoGP World Champion

  • Sammy Swindell: Three-time World of Outlaws champion.

  • Two additional inductees will be announced in the Historic category this summer.
