Jim Seivers Captures Pro Nostalgia Title

SPOKANE — Longtime Spokane drag racer Jim Seivers won the Pro Nostalgia A field points championship for the second time in three years.

“This is a series based at the legendary Woodburn Dragstrip close to Portland and has cars coming from as far away as Arizona and California. It features front engine dragsters, altereds and nostalgia funny cars,” Seivers wrote in a text message.
Most of the cars are new purpose-built cars, but there are a few old cars from the sixties, Seivers explained.

“One is Mike Floyd’s junior fuel car,” Seivers said. “His dad, Earl, raced way back when. It runs a Desoto Hemi on 98% nitro and will make you cry from the smell. Floyd’s car can still go 190 mph, but the et is in the high 7s which isn’t fast enough for the A field.

“We went into the last race of the series with a good lead being the only car with more than one win,” Seivers said.

I told my crew all we had to do was qualify in the A field which is not that easy considering it took a 6 second pass to make it at the last event, and due to rain we only got one shot at it. Seivers laid down a 6.83 which ended up number one qualifier because nobody wanted to chance tire shake by leaning on it.
“My crew, Chris Madison, and Jaci Paslay went nuts on the starting line celebrating, or so I was told. I wasn’t a hundred percent sure about the points and broke in the first round against the third-place car of Jay Kinney.

Then watched Jay and the 2nd place car go to the final with Steve Henry getting the win. I knew it was close and here are the results.

Seivers thanks Chris and Jaci for their efforts, and also gave kudos to the rest of the racers in the class.
“This is a very competitive series, some really good cars and drivers in this,” Seivers said. “They are all great people, knowledgeable, and we are proud to call them friends.”
