Gauge Charles: Qlispe Raceway Junior Lightning Champion | NHRA Division 6 Junior Lightning Champion

Fifteen-year-old Gauge Charles just completed his third season at Qlispe Raceway, where he earned the title of 2025 Junior Lightning Champion. Gauge races in the Junior Lightning class alongside his cousin Kylie, while his younger cousins Caleb and Ali compete in the Junior Thunder division- making race days a full family affair.

At the heart of “Impatience Drag Racing Team” are Nana and Papa Coordes, whose generosity, encouragement, and endless love have made it possible for all the grandkids to share this incredible experience together. They’re at every event- supporting, organizing, and cheering louder than anyone in the stands. The mechanical crew, led by Uncle Marshall and Papa Monty, keeps each car tuned and track ready.
When he’s not burning rubber, Gauge is busy being a sophomore at Ridgeline High School in Liberty Lake. He’s a hardworking student who balances classes and a packed hockey schedule.

Hockey has been a major part of his life since age five, and he now plays competitively for Warhorse 18U team. Between early morning practices, late night games, and weekend races, Gauge’s drive and dedication never slow down- whether it’s ice, asphalt, or anything in between.

Sponsors: Nana and Papa Coordes, SMC Customs inc. (Erick & Crystal McCarthy who have been amazing and supply our racing fuel!) Pit Crew: Auntie Candi, Auntie Heidi, Uncle Marshall, Uncle Timmy, Kim, Sandy and Jack .

While Gauge knew early that he topped the Qlispe standings it took until December before he learned he added another title, that of being named NHRA Division 6 Junior Lightning Champion. For that, Charles was honored Jan. 10 at the organization’s banquet in Portland.
