SAN DIEGO (Sept. 20, 2026) — There will be no need to repaint or renumber the BWR Racing unlimited hydroplane over the winter as Andrew Tate made sure of that last Sunday on Mission Bay.
Tate and the U-1 BWR Racing capped off the 2026 H1 Unlimited season in championship fashion Sunday at Bayfair in San Diego, winning the Bill Muncey Cup and securing the National High Points Championship.
Tate entered the final from lane 3 and delivered when it mattered most, taking the U-1 to victory with an average speed of 152.956 mph. J. Michael Kelly finished second aboard the U-00 Maverick at 147.331 mph, followed closely by Corey Peabody and the U-3 Tahoe Miss at 147.287 mph. Jamie Nilsen and the U-11 Miss FLAV-R-PAC finished fourth.
Jimmy Shane in the U-27 Miss Apollo and Dylan Runne in the U-40 Bucket List Racing were disqualified for N2 violations. According to the internet, “An N2 violation in unlimited hydroplane racing happens when a turbine-powered boat’s engine exceeds 110% of the maximum N2 RPM limit for more than five consecutive seconds.
Sunday’s victory also sealed another major accomplishment for Tate, who earns his third consecutive H1 Unlimited National High Points Driver Championship and the fourth of his career.
BWR Racing also successfully defended its title, earning its second consecutive National High Points Team Championship.
After a season-long battle that came down to the final day of racing in San Diego, Tate and BWR Racing leave Bayfair with both the Bill Muncey Cup and the 2026 National High Points Championship, bringing the H1 Unlimited season to a close.
